Bubba Varela has been awarded the first Robert "Robbie" Gaston Celebration of Life Scholarship by the Gaston family. The family chose Bubba Varela for his demonstration of the qualities of leadership, patriotism, friendship and humor.
Grisela Rivera and Alanis Lee were congratulated for their state art awards by members of the Austin ISD school board on Monday, May 16. Art instructor Jennifer Nowzaradan and Interim Principal Sissy Camacho accompanied the students.
171 students were awarded Trustee Awards by School Board members Paul Saldana, District 6 and Yasmine Wagner, District 7 with principal Sissy Camacho. These students were the top 10% of the 1st thru 5th 6 week grading period.
AISD will hold an information session with a brief presentation and gallery walk. Meeting will be held in the David Crockett High School Library on May 24th from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Community members will have the opportunity to review program proposals and offer input and guidance.

Four seniors were awarded special certificates, medallions and each also received a $1,000.00 college scholarship awarded by the Onion Creek Masonic Lodge Thursday, May 5.
Austin ISD will be honoring Austin's outstanding Latino students and community leaders on Saturday May 7, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium at the University of Texas at Austin
Nurse Cassie Moffitt, RN spoke at the JDRF TypeOne Nation Summit in Irving, Texas last weekend. She is currently a certified diabetes educator (CDE) and uses her knowledge and and experience to educate others in her role as a school nurse for the AISD.

Michelle Kailey Snyder, Crockett College and Career counselor was selected by Texas A & M as a "Very Important counselor of 2016" Each year A&M recognizes the top 25 counselors in the state for their dedication to student success and efforts to help students apply to college.
The Crockett Varsity and non-varsity guitar groups won Sweepstakes at UIL on April 22. The beginning group received excellent ratings on stage and in the sight reading room. Great Job!
Theater teacher Christina Burbank has been selected as High school Teacher of the Year by AISD officials. Dr. Paul Cruz came to Crockett to award Ms. Burbank with a plaque and honor her on campus in her classroom. She will compete for AISD district Teacher of the Year.
Award winning author Francisco X. Stork will be visiting Crockett on Friday April 1 during lunch, in the PAC theatre.
Approximately twenty teachers and administrators from Goosecreek ISD visited CHS on Tuesday, March 22 to observe our progressive school programs such as AVID, Einstein, Entrepreneurship and visit a variety of classrooms.
Crockett hosted "Think It Up" Live on campus March 10 for Crockett students and students from the Austin community. Students were able to brainstorm ideas to create student-powered projects. Students had to describe the impact of their project and competed for $1,000.
Coach Derrick Davis presented a "Certificate of Recognition" to Interim Principal Sissy Camacho for her efforts in supporting the boys basketball students and their program.
Linda Lehmusvirta from PBS station KLRU filmed the Crockett garden and aquaponics system. The story features students from the Garden Club, Aquatic Science classes, Construction Technology who were interviewed about their roles in the development of this project.
Congratulations to Visual Arts students who won 54- 1st place awards and 10- 2nd place awards with 3 State Qualifiers at last Saturday's art competition, Visual Arts Scholastic Event.
The Tex-Anns and Lil' Anns had a successful day on Saturday at the Crowdpleasers Dance Competition in San Marcos. Congratulations dance team Officer Awards winning: Super Sweepstakes, Team Awards: Super sweepstakes and Lil' Anns in their first public performance of Division 1 Superior rating!
