Principal's Message

Kori Crawford - Crockett Principal

Dear Crockett High School Community:

Happy New Year and welcome to the 2017 Spring Semester! I want to take this opportunity to let you know that I am honored to have been chosen as your principal. Crockett High School is truly an amazing and unique school, and I am humbled to join a distinguished group of outstanding and passionate educators and students who have made this school so special.

I was the first in my family to graduate from college, and I began my educational career eighteen years ago in Austin ISD at Garza High School as a teaching assistant and then went on to become a math and SPED teacher and department chair. After receiving my master's degree, I worked as the school improvement facilitator at Crockett High School, and later as the 9th grade assistant principal. Next, I had the opportunity to work as the academic director of Travis High School, and now, here I am, back at Crockett High School, eager to begin my journey, serving as your newest principal.

As I begin the process of re-entering Crockett, I want to invite you to help me learn as much as possible about the school: its current strengths and challenges. In order to accomplish this, I have established an entry plan, which will allow me to listen to the many voices at Crockett, to learn from all of you, and to introduce myself to those of you whom I have not yet met.

For all members of the school community (staff, students, parents, and community members), I have created an online survey that should take about 10 minutes to complete. This survey can be found at bit.ly/CrockettHSsurvey. Please access it at any point before January 31st to provide your answers to the survey questions.

If you would prefer to meet with me in person, below are times for the different groups within our school community to meet. A major priority of mine is to build trust and allow for open exchange about what really matters to you. I will record and compile your answers to the questions only for the purposes of identifying trends within the gathered information, which I will share with you and explore together.

  • Faculty and staff: I invite you to sign up for a thirty-minute meeting to discuss, either individually or with a group of colleagues. I will contact each of you to schedule a time to meet in January. When I do so, please indicate whether you want to meet in a group, individually, or not at all.
  • Parents: Our first meeting will be held on January 24, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Crockett High School showcase. I encourage you to attend so that I can introduce myself, meet with you, and begin our work to make Crockett the best school for your child.
  • Students: I will meet with a variety of student organizations and leadership groups throughout January, and I will hold two open forums in February.
  • Community members: I am also interested in meeting with a variety of business owners, community organizations, and community leaders thoughout the spring semester. It is of the utmost importance to connect our school with the surrounding area. We are all dedicated to creating a community that allows students to earn higher grades, attend school more regularly, stay in school longer, and enroll in higher-level programs. This can only be achieved if we continue to work together.

Once the data is compiled from the questionnaire and the interviews, I will report the findings to the entire school community for review and discussion in March. Armed with this information, we can better face the challenges that lie ahead with a common understanding of where we stand, where we want to go as an institution, and work to create a 5-year plan.

Thank you for your commitment to this process, which will lay the foundation for what I hope is a long and successful tenure as your principal. I am confident that together, we can make Crockett High School an even better place to teach and learn.
