TEA Announces Extended Online STAAR Testing Windows for 20-21 School Year

TEA has released an FAQ that details the planned online testing window extensions for 2020-2021.  The extensions are:

The online testing window is extended for both STAAR 3–8 assessments and STAAR end-of-course (EOC) assessments:

• two weeks for the December 2020 STAAR EOC assessments (December 8–18),

• five weeks for the April 2021 STAAR grades 3–8 and EOC assessments (April 6–May 7),

• five weeks for the May 2021 STAAR EOC assessments (May 4–June 4),

• five weeks for the May 2021 STAAR grades 3–8 assessments (May 11–June 11), and

• two weeks for the June 2021 STAAR grades 3–8 and EOC assessments (June 22–July 2)

This extension applies ONLY to online administrations. At this time paper administrations will still follow the testing calendar as posted (the online windows on the posted calendar will be updated by the end of June). The FAQ also states that tests with written compositions (English I, II, 4th/7th Writing) will still need to be administered on the specified calendar dates.

The STAAR Alternate 2 testing window has been extended to include:

• a two-week preview window (March 15–26) and

• a six-week test administration window (March 29–May 7).

An extension to the TELPAS and TELPAS Alternate windows is still being considered.

Please also note that score reporting will look different this year than in the past (see #11 in the FAQ), we will have access to some sort of on demand score reports after a certain date. The current understanding is that students who test online will have scores available very quickly through this new system.
