What does it mean to be college ready?
College readiness means a high school student has the knowledge and skills necessary in English and Mathematics to qualify for and succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing post-secondary courses without the need for remediation.
What is the TSI?
The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is an assessment designed to determine if a student is ready for college-level course work in the general areas of reading, writing and mathematics. The test will determine what type of course or intervention will best meet the student's needs and to assist in becoming better prepared for college-level course work.
There are two parts of the TSI exam: and English test (featuring a multiple choice section and an essay) and a Math test (multiple choice only). Both tests are untimed, however, no outside resources such as dictionaries, calculators, or study aides are able to used on the exam.
Do I have to take the TSI test?
Students who do not meet one of the following exemptions must take TSI Assessment prior to enrolling in college coursework in the state of Texas.
You may be exempt from taking the TSI Assessment if you have:
- ACT scores: English + Reading = 40, Math = 22
- SAT scores: EBRW = 480, Math = 530
*ACT/SAT scores not older than 5 years and from the same test date. Partial exemptions are allowed.
Dates and Times of Campus Testing:
Crockett offers free TSI testing on campus once each month. Two test sessions will be offered each day – a morning session starting at 9:05 am and an afternoon session starting at 1:30 pm. Students can see all upcoming TSI test dates and sign up for testing opportunities through the Events section of their Schoolinks portal.
In addition to monthly test sessions open to all students, students will also have the opportunity to take the TSI as a part of their English 3 and Algebra 2 courses toward the end of the Spring semester.
Incoming freshman interested in joining Early College High School will have the opportunity to take the TSI in June prior to the start of their 9th grade year during our Summer Bridge Program.

Where do I take the TSI test?
TSI testing will occur in the Crockett Library. Testing will start promptly at 9:05 am for the morning session, and 1:30 pm for the afternoon session.
Students will be excused from classes during TSI testing, however, each student is responsible for making up missed work and communicating with their teachers regarding missing class for testing.
Test Preparation
Several resources exist to support students in preparing for the TSI:
- Pearson TSI Prep - free study site created by the same company that designed the TSI exam.
- Accuplacer Samples - downloadable practice questions with answers and explanations
- IXL - Students can access IXL through their AISD student portal. Once logged in, Navigate to Learning > Test Prep > TSIA2 then select ELA CRC or MATH CRC.
Passing Scores
To be considered college ready in English, students must score a 945 or higher on the multiple choice (or a 5+ on the diagnostic) AND score a 5 or higher on the essay. Students need to meet passing standards on BOTH the multiple choice and the essay to be considered college ready in ELA.
To be considered college ready in Math, students must score a 950 or higher on the multiple choice, or a 6 on the diagnostic.
