Grand Opening of the new Construction Technology Building at Crockett High School

The formal grand opening of the building will be Wednesday, October 12 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at David Crockett High School special guest speakers will announce the grand opening of the $2 million construction technology building for students. Special Guest speakers include: Texas State Representative Paul Workman, District 47 who has served in the House of Representatives since 2011. Representative Workman serves as Vice Chairman of the House Select Committee on State and Federal Power and Responsibility. Commissioner Julian Alvarez III, representing Labor of the Texas Workforce Commission will also speak. Commissioner Alvarez was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to the Commission, which represents the interest of Texas workers with respect to TWC services and ensures that their concerns are considered in all Commission actions. Also speaking will be AISD School Board Member Paul Saldana. Mr. Saldana represents District 6 and serves as Vice-President of the Austin School District Board of Trustees. 

 Crockett High students will utilize this 21st century classroom for academic coursework in Carpentry/ Woodworking, Electrical, Mechanical (HVAC) Plumbing and Welding in the future. Students will get hands on experience in the program in all of the areas working with members of the local unions. The 9,200 square ft. building includes a shop which is 6,200 square foot, (2) classrooms: 750 square foot each; covered outdoor work area/ loading area and office space for two instructors. Crockett High students participating in the program will have the opportunity to enroll in courses at Austin Community College for both Dual Credit and Articulated Credit and earn industry certifications. Plans are underway for Austin Community College to utilize the facility for community college courses in the evening. 

Ground was officially broken on October 13, 2015 for this building.
