Understanding Multilingual Education at Crockett

CBLI

The purpose of CBLI (content-based language instruction), is to make content comprehensible while supporting second language development. This field of teaching used to be called sheltered instruction.

Examples:

  • Sheltered Biology
  • Sheltered Algebra
  • Sheltered World Geography

World Languages

World Languages is a subject area in education that exposes students to different cultures and languages. World Languages programs can help students develop a broader view of the world and expose them to different modes of thought.

Examples:

  • Spanish 1
  • French 2

ESL

ESL stands for English as a Second Language, and it's a field of teaching and learning English to non-native speakers. ESL classes help students improve their English skills, such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing, so they can communicate effectively in English-speaking environments.

Examples:

  • English I ESL
  • Reading 2 ESL

Dual Language

Dual Language is a type of education where students learn literacy and content in two languages, usually English and another language. It's also known as dual language immersion or two-way or one-way dual language. Dual language programs are additive, meaning students acquire a second language while developing their first language.

Examples:

  • DL Latin American Studies
  • DL U.S. History

Code of Conduct

In order to ensure transparency with the rules and expectations of our program we provide a code of conduct to all of our students. Click the link below to download the code of conduct that is given to every student at the beginning of their Dual Language experience so that they and their parent/guardian sign and turn in.
