P-TECH Designation

Under the TEC §29.556, a school district or open-enrollment charter school may apply to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for designation as a P-TECH school. The designation process will be developed by the TEA and ensures that districts and schools operating as P-TECH campuses maintain the integrity of the model. To achieve P-TECH designation, per the TEC §§29.551-29.557, a program must:

  • Be provided at no cost to students.
  • Have open enrollment.
  • Include articulation agreements with IHEs in Texas.
  • Provide participating students flexibility in class scheduling and academic mentoring.
  • Ensure that agreements with business and industry partners emphasize that P-TECH students who complete the program will have priority in interviewing with the applicable employer.

Follow all requirements detailed in §29.556 in the TEC.
